HUNTING IN SWEDEN

Hunting in Sweden we arrange for birds in the north of the Swedish province Dalarna. Here my partner has access to more than 20,000 hectares of ideal habitat for capercaile and black grouse.
The three different species of forest birds are hunted, depending on the season. The season starts on the 25th of August and ends on the 31st of January. In addition to bird hunting, we also offer hunting for beavers.

Hunting areas

The hunting grounds are located in the north of the Swedish province of Dalarna.

Accommodation

The camp is located in the small community Husvallgölen, between Sälen and Särna in northern Dalarna. The camp has a beautiful location near the river “Fuluälven” and directly in the hunting grounds. You can reach the river on foot (50 meters) where you can catch grayling and trout. The new “Camp Nordic Footprints” consists of three buildings: Valhalla, Midgård and Utgård. The camp also has a large sauna, which is heated with wood and can be rented.
With a package with guide we also have full board food included. The food is based on local food as well as game, fish and berries. Fruit is one of them. Of course we adapt the diet to your preferences and allergies.

Game species and hunting opportunities

Trophy hunting with hunting dog and skis
One type of hunting is trophy hunting. We hunt at a time when the birds have developed their complete plumage. We hunt out of the undergrowth when the dogs find set the birds sitting in the trees. When the first snow comes, we leave the dogs at home and move forward with the cross-country skis. We are hunting with a rifle of the caliber 222 Rem-6,5×55 and can shoot between 30-200 meters.

Capercaile/ black grouse hunting with hunting dog

We have different species as we go bird hunting. One of them is on grouse and black grouse with our hunting dogs. The dog represents the bird for the hunter. This can take a few hours or go very fast until the dog has found the bird. After breakfast we go together with the hunting dogs into the forest. We hunt all day with some longer breaks to rest and eat. After dinner we close the evening with a wonderful sauna in our wood-fired sauna. We hunt with caliber 12-20 shotguns.

Snow grouse hunting

We are hunting the snowcocks in the Swedish mountains. You can choose between two packages:
# 1: Accommodation in a comfortable cabin with sauna and other amenities. Every morning your guide will drive you to the hunting area, where you will hike out of the valley into the mountains. This package is the cheapest, but participants have to hike in the woods.
No. 2: Wilderness Camp. Together with your guide and equipment, you will fly by helicopter to the hunting area in the mountains, where you will set up your base camp for the next few days. With this package you have more time for hunting, as no daily transport to the hunting area is required. The wilderness camp usually consists of two tents, a tent for meals and a tent for sleeping. There are no sanitary facilities.

Change per season

During the season, the type of hunting will change. At the beginning of the season, we will hunt with pointers, as soon as the snow falls, the dogs will be exchanged for skis.
We recommend as weapon a shotgun caliber 12-20. Once there is snow, we will use rifles with caliber 222 Remington.

Beaver

The beaver lives in rivers, but also in lakes. Therefore, we hunt in different places, depending on where the stock is the largest. It is a stalking hunt, but we will also lay in and wait for the beaver.
During spring we use skis or snowshoes in the forest.
Recommended weapon: caliber 222 Remington 30.06.

Hunting sequence
3 days / 2 nights beaver hunt
During the 3 days we hunt the beaver in small groups with a maximum of 4 hunters and one guide each for 2 hunters.

We hunt in the morning and in the evening when the chances for beavers are best.

Process example

Day 1: Arrival after 1:00 pm, followed by a brief briefing on hunting. In the evening, the first hunt takes place before dinner.
Day 2: The hunt starts early in the morning. After the hunt, there is free time for the hunters until lunchtime and after lunch the evening hunt is started. After the hunt, the evening meal will be served at the camp, after which it will be possible to use the sauna.
Day 3: The last day is hunted again in the morning before breakfast and after breakfast the hunt is over and the hunters drive back. It is also possible to extend the hunt for another day (morning / evening hunting).

Climate:

Despite its northern location, Sweden has a fairly mild climate, which is mainly due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean with the warm Gulf Stream. The majority of Sweden has a humid climate with high rainfall and relatively low temperature differences between summer and winter. Polar climate occurs only in the northern high mountains. The average temperature for January is 0C to -2C in the south and -12C to -14C in the north (except the high mountains), the average temperature for July is 16C to 18C in the south and 12C to 14C in the north.
